Cromer and Sheringham Operatic and Dramatic Society

This is Rattigan's most famous play amid such other successes as The Deep Blue Sea, Separate Tables, The Browning Version, French Without Tears and Flare Path.

Based upon the true-life case of George Archer Shee, which gripped the nation in 1910, it tells the story of young 13-year-old Ronnie Winslow, a cadet at Osborne Naval College, who, accused of stealing a five shilling postal order, is expelled without a proper hearing or court-martial.

Convinced of his son's innocence, his father Arthur makes it his sole mission to clear his son's name before the world and engages the services of the top legal Counsel of the day Sir Robert Morton, KC. The case makes its way through via the House of Commons, the Admiralty and ultimately to the High Court at no little cost to the family both financially and socially.

The action of the play takes place only in the drawing room of the Winslow house in London and is spread over 23 months from July 1912 to June 1914, just before the outbreak of the First World War. So, some lovely, elegant Edwardian costumes and set dressings.
